Together, to improve performance

We don’t claim value, we prove it.

While some industries change direction with every passing trend, ours commits to decisions that shape the twenty years ahead. A machine, a production line  or a mill cannot adapt to the whims of a particularly volatile market. Every technological choice counts. Every mistake costs money. And every delay lasts forever.

Given this context, innovation simply cannot rely on intuition or a mere market shift. It requires proof, expert skills, robust testing and a solid grasp of industrial realities. For nearly seventy years, that is exactly what CTP has brought to the table. Our role is not to narrate change but to make it happen — to lower the risks, to speed up the decision-making and turn long-term investment into a competitive advantage.

A centre like ours does not sell an off-the-shelf product. It builds expertise, masters key technologies and develops know-how that the market cannot source otherwise. Our pilot lines, our standardized and custom methods, our teams from Grenoble and Douai all the way to Asia and South America form a human, scientific, technical and industrial capital that no other player can match easily.

That rarity is our strength. It also gives strategic leverage to the whole industry. It is a long-term plan — and, far from being a weakness, it is instrumental in making sharper decisions, innovating faster, investing more surely and keeping ahead of the game.

Long term does not mean loss of momentum. Quite the opposite, in fact: never has our industry had to absorb so many disruptions at once: water stress, forever chemicals, microplastics, the PPWR regulation that enforces recyclability, the surge in extended producer responsibility. These pressures shift the balance, weaken established positions and force everyone to rethink their game plan. They also open new avenues for those who can anticipate, prove and act faster than others.

In our commodity industry, cellulose-based material competes against fossil-based materials that are especially cost-competitive. That battle cannot be won on price per tonne alone, but on our core competence: fit-for-purpose performance, recyclability, decarbonization and the ability to meet new environmental demands.

The results of 2025 give us ample proof: an international award won in New York, a Palme d’Or for innovation in Paris, new outlets in food packaging with Citeo, Techpap equipment sold across every papermaking continent. Our know-how is not just a technological promise: it has become a solid industrial and commercial advantage.

One conviction remains: creating value is no longer enough — it must be quantified and championed. A manufacturer does not buy science; they buy a productivity gain, tonnes of CO₂ saved, regulatory compliance, reduced risk or access to new markets.
Our role is therefore clear: to measure that value, make it visible and turn it into a decision.

This gives all the sense to our four commitments: to secure your competitiveness, transform decarbonization into measurable gains, accelerate the scale-up, and conquer new markets using proof of concept.

At the Centre Technique du Papier, innovation is neither a slogan nor a string of headline-grabbing announcements. It is a demanding, patient and deeply industrial craft. Our ambition is to turn the long term into a competitive advantage, and show that an industry that some believed doomed to be a commodity can still invent, shine and assert the values that have become essential to the evolving needs of humanity.
