General informations

The equipment at the Physical Testing Laboratory can be used to perform structure tests to characterise properties such as grammage and thickness on various types of material and in a variety of conditions.

The main product types tested are:

• raw materials such as paper, tissue paper, folding boxboard, corrugated board, composites, etc.
• finished products such as cardboard boxes, folding carton, bricks, books, brochures, tissue products, blister packaging, labels, etc.

Technical Data and Achievements

Several testing standards are used at the laboratory, depending on the nature of the material to be analysed:

Grammage

• Grammage of paper and board, in accordance with NF EN ISO 536
• Grammage of tissue papers and tissue products, in accordance with NF EN ISO 12625-6
• Grammage of single layers of solid fibreboard, in accordance with ISO 5638
• Grammage of single layers of solid fibreboard, in accordance with NF Q 03-064
• Grammage of the component papers after separation, in accordance with ISO 3039
• Grammage of the component papers after separation, in accordance with NF Q 03-043

Thickness

• Thickness, in accordance with NF EN ISO 534, and determination of bulk
• Thickness and density of tissue paper and tissue products, in accordance with NF EN ISO 12625-3
• Thickness of corrugated board, in accordance with ISO 3034
• Thickness of corrugated board, in accordance with NF Q 03-030

Moisture content

• Moisture content of paper on receipt or after conditioning, in accordance with NF EN ISO 287 or NF EN ISO 638
• Moisture content of cores, in accordance with ISO 11093-3

Dimensions

• Dimensions of formats, in accordance with NF EN ISO 216
• Dimensions of cores, in accordance with ISO 11093-4
• Dimensions of tissue products in the form of rolls, jumbo rolls or sheets, in accordance with NF Q 34-100
