FLEXLAM
Development of barrier and recyclable flexible cellulose packaging
- To offer barrier and recyclable paper packaging, using MicroFibrillated Cellulose (MFC) wet lamination technology (a technology that provides a barrier to grease, oxygen and contaminants to paper).
- To adapt the MFC wet lamination pilot (TRL5) to obtain thin, homogeneous MFC layer on flexible paper substrates (<110g/m²).
- To combine MFC wet lamination with coating processes (coating/printing) to provide complementary properties such as water vapour barrier, water barrier or heat sealing.
- To study and to improve the processability (folding, creasing, gluing, printing, etc.) of the materials obtained to maintain barrier performance during converting.
- To develop a pilot-scale proof of concept for flexible packaging applications.
