Analysis of components of lignocellulosic materials
To characterize the raw materials to optimize the processes
- To mesure the main dimensions and morphological characteristics of components used in the lignocellulosic products
- To enhance the products quality by a better knowledge of properties of constitutive elements
- To study the impact of mechanical and/or chemical treatments on the processes and the productsits
Generate Value...
Since the end of 1990s, CTP has developed an expertise in the dimensional and morphological characterization of lignocellulosic materials and of their components.
By the development and purchase of analysis tools, it is able to give data statistically significative in a short time on a great number of characteristics and dimensions.
The analysis of these data allows understanding the effect of processes on the product quality (pulping, bleaching, refining, finishing, etc.) and modifying the processes to decrease their economical, energetical and environmental impact.
By its expertise, some recommendations can be proposed to optimize the processes and their main steps and to improve the runnability of materials, generating cost reductions of at least 10% (for example, determination of the refiners efficiency in a pulp preparation line).

Context and performance
The fibres are the main components of the lignocellulosic materials. An accurate knowledge of dimensions and of morphological characteristics of these fibres is a major advantage for optimizing their production.
From your samples of end products and/or of raw materials, CTP carries out the required analyses to study the evolution of properties and to improve the running of used facilities.

Content of services
Depending on the objective of the analysis, CTP carries out the following services:
- Measurement of the drainage index of pulps (index °SR and CSF)
- Determination of shives content (Sommerville screening)
- Distribution of fibres in different fractions (Bauer McNett classifier)
- Statistical analysis of the main dimensions and morphological characteristics of fibres by the way of MorFi and FiberFlex analysers (length, width, coarseness, curl index, flexibility, macrofibrillation index, RBA-hydrogen bond potential)
- Statistical analysis of the main dimensions and morphological characteristics of shives, fines and hardwood pulps vessels
- Statistical analysis of cell wall thickness of fibres
- Quantitative analysis of sclerites in a pulp and a paper
- Production of handsheets to correlate the fibres characteristics with the mechanical and optical properties of the product.

Deliverables
CTP supplies an analysis report indicating the data, resulting from the analysis, histograms of distribution and of comparison and/or some recommendations, depending on the object of the demand.
