Manufacturers, transformers or end-users of paper/paperboard materials intended for food contact must comply with certain rules to ensure consumer safety.
The assessment of a material’s compliance for food contact involves several steps that lead to the final declaration of conformity (steps detailed here). Whether it is valid for 2, 3 or 5 years, this declaration must be revised in the event of a change in raw materials, suppliers, the manufacturing process or if regulatory updates occur.
A modification of the regulatory text that was used to write the declaration does not necessarily imply that the whole process has to be redone. The CTP can help you in your risk analysis to assess the impact on your products.
Monitoring at national, European and international level
Context and performance
To date, paper/cardboard materials intended for food contact do not benefit from harmonized regulations at European level. National technical rules as defined in the principle of mutual recognition shall apply. The proliferation of provisions requires rigorous monitoring depending on the material, the country of manufacture and the country in which the product is marketed.
In this context the CTP can help and support manufacturers to meet the regulatory requirements that apply to them.
